I've been trying image transfer for the 150th time - (thanks to Claudine Hellmuth) this is done with an acrylic paint dabber, and an inkjet printer. I'm told it works better with laser prints or photocopies - I think that's because the inkjet ink doesn't seem to be waterproof, and when you rub off all the backing paper, it's hard not to smear all the ink too.
Having said that, it makes a nice grungy effect.
